Programs Supporting Colorado Communities

Power Together: Energy Solutions for Colorado Communities explores how well energy programs in Colorado are working for people. Sometimes, people may not know these programs exist, or if they do, the applications are hard to fill out, the rules can be confusing, or they can’t understand the language.  These programs are meant to help with all kinds of energy needs, from lowering bills to switching to cleaner transportation. 1. billing assistance

Managing energy bills can feel overwhelming. These programs help make bills more manageable:

LEAP: The Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP) helps income-qualified households pay a portion of their winter home heating costs. Apply at Colorado PEAK.

Bill Payment Assistance Program: Energy Outreach Colorado (EOC) provides emergency financial assistance for past-due energy bills for income-qualified residents to apply, find a payment assistance agency through Energy Outreach Colorado here.

CMEP: The Chronic Care Collaborative offers reduced electricity rates for those with medical needs. Visit the Chronic Care Collaborative website.

2.ENERGY UPGRADES

Upgrades can save money, improve comfort, and reduce energy use. Programs include:

CARE Program: Provides free home energy upgrades like insulation and efficient appliances. Learn more at the EOC website.

Weatherization Assistance Program: Offers weatherization upgrades for renters and homeowners, focusing on older adults, people with disabilities, and families with young children. Details are on the Colorado Energy Offices’ website.

3.SOLAR ENERGY

Switching to solar power can reduce electricity costs and use renewable energy. Options include:

Solar*Rewards Program: Offers rewards and bill credits for installing solar panels. Income-qualified participants may receive upfront payments. Learn more at Xcel Energy’s Solar*Rewards page.

4.ELECTRIC VEHICLES (EVs)

EVs save money on gas and are better for the environment, but upfront costs and home charger installation remain concerns.
